WRFD Hiring Process
Career Firefighter Requirements: State Certified Fire Firefighter II/Basic & Current EMT-B License
Testing Process: By law we are required to test and keep an eligibility list every (2) years for a Career Firefighter. Our department will advertise in the local media and/or newspaper as to when the hiring process will take place every (2) years. To be considered you’ll need to meet the requirements listed for a Career Firefighter. We currently require a written test administered by a third party, physical C.P.A.T Test, and an oral interview. The C.P.A.T is administered at the St. Louis County Fire Academy (see information links below). Oral interviews are then scheduled individually with the Fire & Police Commission once the written and C.P.A.T is completed.
Paid On-Call Firefighter Requirements: Resident of Wood River or within (1) mile of city limits, 21 years or older (with exceptions), must pass testing process.
Testing Process: Testing for Paid On-Call Firefighters is on an as needed basis. We don’t keep an eligibility list for this process. Advertisement will be in the local media and/or newspaper when there is a need for a hiring process. Applications can be completed and turned into the Firehouse at any time, see below for Application, additional requirements, and details of the hiring process. The Physical Testing process is very similar the Career Firefighter C.P.A.T test, however it’s administered here at the WRFD by our personnel.
